I just got a baby pair of these. One is black and the other is a little brownish.

Max size and temperament?

A quick google image search has the source of the pic saying this guys a Hemibagrus nemurus/ Asian Redtail Catfish. If it is they max out around 25 inches and are nasty beyond belief, best kept alone. Other possibilities include other Hemibagrus such as menoda that being said like it's kin these guys tend to need their own tank. If one is black does it have a white stripe on it's tail if it does the black one is probably Hemibagrus wyckii. Here's a link to a PCF page about nemurus
http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=801

Pics of your actual fish of course would significantly help increase the accuracy of the id.

Thank you for your reply. I'll try to get a picture of the actual fish. I'm out at the moment. But this is what it looks like. One is light coloured and the other is black.

Here they are. Couldn't get a perfect shot because as soon as I put them in the tank they have started fighting!

Could you tell what they are?

The pics aren't the best but I'm sticking with my original assumption except that they both look black to me so I'm saying they're both wyckii. The fact that they're fighting at such a small size seems to suggest as well to me that they're wyckii.

It is a Hemibagrus species but I don't think it is a Wyckii. The tip of tail does not look like this:

The larger one of the two is not as black and slender as the other though but it is black in colour. It was in a different mood and was kind of brownish at the lfs.

They are Hemibagrus. The genus used to have 3 spp. Now 18 or smth. Dr. Heok Hee Ng split them up. Not easy to ID now, have to read the revision. Plus, the fish in question and the reference fish must be of comparable age and size when comparing.

Going by old taxonomy of 3 spp., nemurus is almost never available in natural color, always albino. ARTC can be but usually rare and more expensive. Wyckiis are usually $5 and available. Hence, by old taxonomy, I'd stick with wyckii.
