Sand turning color

My pfs is starting to turn blackish purple on color it's a fresh water 220 gallon with a 3 inch dovii

Is it just bacteria?

Blackish is probably algae. More detail and picture please.

Most likely algae and/or natural protein building up.

Sea Chem purigen
79 degrees
Only guy in there is 3 inch dovii

Adding some sort of sand sifter or bottom dweller to constantly stir up the pfs may help.

I think that's the problem is I had this tank running for like a year but I used to have frontosa and never had a problem they were always digging, now I have just a dovii and he doesn't really dig is there anything that can go in with him that he won't kill?
