Howdy,

I own 5 little Pygocentrus cariba in a 210gallons. (80"x24"x28"). One friend of mine owns a 22 shoal (6-8" fishes) in is big 1000gallons with 2 monster piraya (18" each). He's going to reduce the size of this cariba shoal to 15 fishes and I'd like to get 5 to complete my shoal.
I know perfectly well that my 210gallons doesn't offer the best living conditions for 10 cariba but do you know successful exemples of such attempts?

Thanks for your comments.

Bye.

Yeah, I've seen it done here on multiple occasion. The common theme was adding the fish and then scaring them for a bit to prevent that weird stand off period. don't recall exact tank sizes though

Any chance you can get a pic of those monster pirayas?

Thanks for your post.
My main fear concerns the size of my tank... I knows that I need, in theory, 300-400 gallons for 10 cariba and I can't find an attempt in a 200-250 gallons.
I'll search a pic of the monster piraya!

I remember having a bunch of caribe, natts, and 1 ternetzi, and to reduce aggression I kept wood and plants in there so they didn't make eye contact If they didn't want to.
Amazingly, this allowed Congo tetras, danios, guppies, and even some smaller buffalo cichlids to thrive.. with piranhas.

Yes! When the fishes will measure 10" or more, a 200 gallons tank will be really narrow...

I know how to prevent aggression. My bad english doesn't help me to be clear. MMy really question is : do you know successful attempts concerning the maintenance of 8 or 10 cariba in a 200 or 250gallons?

You mean cleaning?
My piranha tank got dirty very quickly, I kept my tank near a window and garden hose and did a 25% to 50% once a week.
It was a 125 gallon.

Howdy,

Don't mean cleaning ;) Just available water volume for the fishes.
All the tanks with full grown caribe I see a lot of places are considerably more voluminous than 200.
Hence my question concerning successful attempts in 200 or 250.

Bye.
