Am giving my coworker's daughter a betta tank plus supplies since I have no need of it, but not sure how to share bacteria to help her cycle a bit faster. I assume squeeze some water off filter sponge, but how much? A test tube? (My donor tank is a 65 and hers will be a 3). And how long can the majority of bacteria stay alive? She works day shift and I work nights, so that kinda throws it off. Wanna convince her to fishless cycle, but because it's her kid, I don't think it'll work.

It would be better if you could give her a bit of your filter floss. It will hold more bacteria rather than a squeeze of water. Since it's only a 3 gallon it wouldn't take much so shouldn't have too much impact on your tank.
