So I have a 12" Florida gar and want to add a 12" Cuban gar. How do you think they will do together. Both eating smelt and the Florida also eats pellets. For now they will be in a 230 gallon with just a 8" giant gourami and some eels for tank mates.
All is good and the Cuban ate 3 smelts right after transit, even though I was just trying to feed the Florida gar before I went to work. The gourami doesn't bug anyone so I wasn't worried about it harassing the Cuban. I have 3 spotted peacock eels and couldn't care less if they get ate or not as I already found one on the floor and had to rescue it so they will probably eventually die on the floor at some time or another. Lesson learned not to buy small eels! I have a 12" fire eel and he is fine with everyone and has his own spot he sits in.
Both gars take smelts out of my hand and the cuban never sits at the bottom unlike my Florida who likes to spend most of his time on the bottom of the tank.
I have three cubans about 8-10 inches and they are very agressive.
Much more agressive than my old spotted gars.
Yesterday i had to seperate one because he was totally beaten up.
I hope he will survive.
Maybe the other two are a pair ?
I guess I shouldn't have based the care of these fish on someones lack of success. These seem to be very hardy fish and easy to feed on non live food. I have to watch how much I feed this guy as he tries to eat everything including my fingers, algae scrubber, etc. LOL
