I had been fishing a local pond and kept noticing some attractive fish with red tails. I brought my 9 year old daughter to the pond and we netted some up, they are Golden Topminnows. I set up a 20 long tank for her, and after reading a bit about top minnows range and tolerance of brackish water, I decided to make the tank brackish so that we can also have some sailfin mollies. Yesterday I took my daughter crabbing (we caught 10 and a half dozen..yum). She started throwing the cast net and picking up a bunch of sheepshead minnows and small sailfin mollies. We've added them to the tank and they look great. The sheepshead minnows are in spawning colors so the males have a lot of red and the iridescent blue stripe on top of their head is showing. The mollies are nice, but I know where a population of much larger, much prettier ones live, it's a little over an hour away, but when I get the chance I'm going to head that way to collect some. I'll post some pics when I get a chance to shoot some.
