I'm just a broke dude in an apartment with 15 amp non-gfci circuits using simple power strips. But there's easy stuff you can do to protect yourself.
I like to try and keep my power strips above everything. Buy a half way decent powerstrip, this is a $30 phillips multimedia power center, rated at over 1500w using just 150w for heating and less than 100w for lights and filters
If I can't manage to have the power strip above everything I try to isolate it.
Space was limited in my cabinet on this tank so it's mounted beside the 40b sump. All cords have a drip loop and I made a splash guard. There are 2 powerstrips here. One heavy duty powertool garage power strip rated at 20amps and 2000w with a 14 guage cord runs the return pumps and heaters. The other one runs lights, air pumps, power heads.
Same sump. Proper cable routing and cord management will make your lide easier
