Ok, so I went to The fish store today and bought some stuff. My water has been blooming with algae and turned brown due to a new driftwood I bought. Anyways, I just bought this Jebo UV Sterilizer and the hook ups are good but I was just wondering, is it a decent size for my 55 gal. I'm currently using 2 HOBs atm. I should've just bought a canister with it as well but it's all a bought the Benjamin's! Check out my pix and lmk what y'all think. I also went ahead and uploaded business cards.

I don't know what the flow rate of your uv is but I see it's 9 watts. Effective algae control is 10gph to 1 watt. 9 watt should be 90gph flow rate. If it's more cover the intake with some felt and get some dense foam to replace the pre filter. I would look more for the cause of the algae. Phosphate and nitrates are nutrients for algae. Less feeding more changes. Seachem makes phosguard. Put some in a media bag inside the hob. Change it every couple of days.

I was just looking at the uv you posted. To me that is a picture of an in line sterilizer. You said you have 2 hob. You would plumb the uv into your return line on a canisterfilter.if that is an in line you can't use it. Correct me if I'm wrong

Here's more pix. I'm not sure what you mean by in line. I ask the lady to help so this is what she provided me with. Also, I've attached pix of the pump that she gave me.

The term 'Inline' in this case refers to the fact that the uv sterilizer you have doesn't have its own pump. With this is mind in order to use it you would either connect it's own pump (as it appears you are doing) or plumb it inline with a canister as mentioned above, which means placing the canister output line into one side of the uv sterilizer and a hose running out from the sterilizer into the aquarium. That pump will probably be a little too powerful for what you want to achieve though, depending on how you set everything up.

OK the original pic showed a 9watt uv sterilizer. These pics are 18watt. If you have a 18watt sterilizer with that pump at a 4ft max head you'll have 150 gph on 18 watt. That's good to control algae. What I mean by in line is.... normally you take that uv sterilizer with say a canister filter. You would cut your return line and plumb the sterilizer and use the flow of water created by the canister instead of a utility pump. Essentially your using 1 pump for 2 jobs. The canister and uv sterilization . You don't have any format of return so you need a utility pump to operate that.

Dang, AWESOME feedback bro! I get it now. Yeah, Sumo was telling me I should eventually get a canister. I was thinking about a sump but I have no idea on how to build one. I'm currently looking at forums. I have that damn pump in my tank and it looks really tacky and unclean. I want no cables or anything hanging. Hopefully in the near future I will get something going but as for now, I'll probably get a canister. Would you have any recommendation for a canister?

Honestly a recommendation on a canister is personal preference. You can ask 10 people what the recommend and you'll get 10 different choices. Personally on my 55 I run 2 canisters. I run 1 xp2 that is mostly mechanical filtration. It does have a little bit of bio filtration also incase something happens to the other filter. The 2nd filter is a sunsun 304b with strictly bio media except a small amount of foam on the bottom. I chose the sunsun as my bio because it has a lower gph which exposes the water to nitrifying bacteria longer. Everything about this hobby is trial and error. Noone has everything 100% perfect. You'll get all kinds of recommendation of every different manufacturer. There's pros and cons about them all.

Sumps are also good. You can put the heater right in it. Lots of room for media. It also increases you tanks water volume by about 70% of whatever size tank you use for the sump.

Cool! Well, my uncle does have a sump that He's not using but I don't know what it needs to get it setup atm. He has the blue bio balls in them already. I'll take a pic when I go to his house and attach it so you can see.
