1/4" crushed granite for substrate?

Never used sand, but not sure how you'd clean it...seems like the sand would get sucked up into the vacuum tube?
I've used 1/4 sized river rock and had no problems with it. Crushed granite would likely have some rough edges so you might want to be careful with fish that like to burrow, dig, or rest in the substrate. But otherwise I think it could add a great look to your tank.
Right now I am using crushed shale that I collected myself from a local deposit, and it's working well so far. Makes the tank look very dark, but that shouldn't be a problem once my new light arrives...I think that under a good light, the fish will really contrast well against the black shale.
