I just got my new 125 gallon today and am going to put sand in it for sure. I know I can get sand pretty cheap at Home Depot. But while I was at the LFS I noticed a couple of their tanks had black sand. Anyone know where the cheapest place to get enough black sand for a 125 would be?

Also, what is the easiest way to filter out the sand before putting it into the tank?

i use tihtan moon sand
its like 10-20 bucks for a 20lb bag
just rise it a lot, or your tank water will be black
i took out buckets at a time and washed it over and over

a cheaper alternative to tahitian moon sand is 3M color quartz. it comes in different colors and 2 different grain sizes. it's used in decorating pools so you'll probably find it at pool supply shop.
