I can get a Marineland 125 Bowfront for under very cheap. It is supposedly the same footprint as my current 72 bow, but much taller. The seller is not sure the height, but my calculations put it around 36". The seller is local, I have emailed her but not looked at the tank yet. I think it would make an beautiful display tank, but there is a problem. It leaks. I am wondering if it would still be worth a try to reseal, or just a huge headache.

From her emails:

"Was a display tank in a store very unique can't buy them like this. Is not cracked just leaks at the sealant. Otherwise in great condition was only in the store six months."

"Yes it was originally designed to hold water but the design was poor and did not work. they do not make them anymore. yes it is the exact same as the 72 bow only taller. It fits the stand and top."

"Well the glass is thick. the problem is the height. too much weight pushing out on the bowed front. This was resealed by the company marineland and all 8 that they built leaked it is not a sealent issue it is a flawed design."

Has anyone ever seen or had experience with a tank like this before? Is it likely removing all the sealant and replacing it will fix the leak?

Opinions?

Thanks!!!

From what she said in her e-mails, the company has re sealed it, and it STILL LEAKS! I honestly wouldn't touch it, sounds like a MAJOR design flaw to me. Personally think that you would have a huge headache on your hands there.:nilly::cry::screwy:

i agree with K626 don't get it for sure.

You could give it a try. I would get a different grade of silicon and maybe try to building a brace to help support the seal. There are all kinds of ways you give it added support. It may not have the astetics that the manufacter would want, but I'm sure you could make it look good.

K626 you are probably right. In my head I am trying to picture what the design manufacturing flaw is. If the glass is thick enough and the top is braced I would think it would be OK. I suppose if it is to tall it could be flexing outward along the height of the seal.

Well, it sure would be a great tank!

And the fact that it leaks means it should be dirt cheap right?
I have never heard of a tank that needed you to build a support frame, but perhaps it could be done?
some sort of clamps?
It's a great looking tank, it's worth thinking about....
But if there is just no way to fix it,. then what else could you use it for, plants?

fill it up half way and may a terrarium!

but i do agree it would make a great display tank! for me it would matter on cost if it is actuallly that cheap i would take the gamble and use the strongest aquarium sealant possible(GE construction) and try to reseal it! but if it was too expensive i wouldnt take the gamble!
