Who'd a thunk doing a water change would have brought the aggression out amongst my Chaetobranchus flavescens. Only lasted a few minutes, but was still cool to watch. They have HUGE mouths when flared. Unfortunately they were at the back of the tank, so I couldn't really get them. They only show those black verticle bars below the lateral line when they are grumpy!! Possibly horny? :nilly:

Added a shot of the acute...:)

That sucks.
I found sometimes that when I used to let my water get bad and do a large water change my cichlids became more aggressive. It gives them a little "pep in there step" and they become feisty.

what they r doing is mating rituals. its very common in many species to engage in mating rituals when introduced to new water. so a large water change could induce the same behaviour... my old oscars used to do it too...

This wasn't mating ritual. I've bred cichlids before, and used waterchanges quite often for it. This is aggression...lol. I think I've got three males...bugger...
