Lets settle this :grinyes:

the poll should have had more options so people wanting a new H.O.B. could see which filter everyone uses. but this is a good thread because its a question asked alot. i think this one needs a sticky if enough ppl vote for it. but i chose aquaclear

niether?
Marineland Bio wheel, why spend the extra money for the EMP?
AC are very poplar as well, but I'll stick with my Marineland..

aquaclear for sure...much easier and cheaper to maintain and with much better output. it is possible to rig an AC 110 with a bio wheel using 2 Penguin 170 powerwheels. :thumbsup:

ac=best
emp=preferred (dual400s on my main tanks)

Emperor much easier to maintain .. :) matter of opinion i guess... I spend aobut 2.00 per year on mine :D But hey i guess i just modifyu mine to fit my needs.. My water has been crystal clear from day one with this filter :) Bought my Emp 400 for 25.00 HHhhhmm deal or not ? :LOL:

I just bought a used Aquaclear 500 for $20. How good is this filter? I will be using it on a 75gallon tank.

I have kept/used both these filters... both are good well designed HOB power filters. :)

Personally, I like/prefer the Aquaclear a bit more better... good strong output, able to control output (higer/lower), can utilize media space/chamber much more effectively, compared to the Emperor's cartridge slot, also cheaper to maintain (media cartridge/foam replacements) as well. Also, I think Aquaclear uses less wattage/amps than the Emperor (less electricity). :idea:

Though I do like Emperor's material better... much more durable than Aquaclear's plastic... it tends to break or crack much more easier than Marineland. But all in all, both are good all-around filters. It's all preference. :headbang2
