Tom, where did your batch come from? I got mine over a year ago from Ken Davis, who got them from David (fish speaker) in NC. I also just picked up 5 more juvies from Jeff Rapps.

Very nice. I like their colors and patterns. It looks like they eat pretty well too.

They don't miss many meals I'll tell you that. They are also very plant friendly no digging or nibbling. It's been my observation they have more of carnivorous preferance in their diet. They have no problem eating veggi wafers but go nuts for anything meaty worms, Krill, shrimp ect. They are a very enjoyable fish to own and observe. I agree I also love their colors and patterns, thank you.

Mine tend to be a bit shy, but other cichlids (like severums and Geos) bring them out of their shell a bit. They've got that chunky, thick body shape that I love. I love the white edging on their fins when they get older. I just wish mine would spawn already and quit teasing me.

Mine are pretty mellow, nothing crazy a little conspecific aggresion towards terratory or at feeding time but nothing too bad. A good comunity cichlid but would not keep them with anythig too aggresive. Sevs, Festivum, Angels and some larger Tetras would be fine with them. A nice looking addition to a SA community if you were looking for somthing not seen every day. I find Acaras in general to be great fish. Thank you.

Very interesting and cool species!

My old pair looked way different than yours. Yours are so much brighter than mine were. Granted, mine were quite a bit older, but yours look superb!

Here is my old Male. Hope it's okay i'm throwing it up here, just thought we could compare. This male was close to 6".
