This is a vid from yesterday when everything started, had to remove all the fish as the female was hitting the male so hard you could hear the "bong" sounds from across the house...this vid show the post fight action...the female is still the aggressor....since this vid they have chose that rock which is 28"long x 23"wide and are shoveling all the gravel away from it...also both the male and female are swollen as if they ate softballs...looking very good for possibly tonight or tomarrow...will keep you updated and add pics tonight of some action. This video will make alot of things very clear for cichla keepers and will understand the signifigance of these action and movements...most are very clear to see.

Love hurts. GL on the spawning.

So, basically pre-spawn behavior? Was there something "special" I missed?

haaa that is the mild part...hearing two 20+" peas hitting each other from across the house was a lil scary...thought I was gonna lose one...sounded like a gong every time they hit one another...they are now both swelled and clearing gravel away from a 28x23" 80lb rock..lol coming soon I hope..all looks good and females ovipositor is visable now.

yeah the special part is they are finally getting it done...lol only one other person I know of has been able to get orinos to produce eggs, but have never seen fry here in the US as to date from a pair ;) tis a special thing for sure in my book as I have all the fry sold already to vendors that have contacted me before signs of breeding and now have pms out the wazoo from this vid..lol :) they have been a long time coming for fry..... these will be f1 venz orinos "mean greens" not the yellow or brown variants :)

Wow - cool - thanks for educating me about that. They are everywhere (PBass, that is) so I figured that people bred them more often... Guess not. Nice work!! First time for you?

all that is commonly bred are farm bred monoculus and florida hybrids...with the regulations now on cichla from south america you will not see the variety of this past year anymore, these past few years were actually the 1st time orinos were avail since the 80s and a first for azuls thanks to private efforts of brian scott and a few others...you wont see them again for sale in the years to come....fines for exporters now are equal to a seasons salary for messing with cichla in many countries down there and all who I have talked to are "hands off" now,so only cichla that are gonna be commonly avail are farm bred monocs and tems from asia...hopefully next I can get the large group of azuls to pair off.

Awesome going!!!! Anybody else working on breeding Cichla?

I've had them on and off in the past (generic farm bred) it makes me want more again :)

Nice.... Congratulations, hope you get some fry.
I bet moving all the other fish out was kind of a chore. Huh?
Did it seem to bother the pair at all when you were getting the other fish out?
