I have TWO friends now that this has happened to! They are coming from the Lot# 01H31. Apparently this is a bad lot that MarineLand is recalling. I haven't been able to confirm that personally though.

I JUST got two new 300watt MarineLand heaters last week. I just put them in my tank last night, and was going to plug them in today. They are the EXACT same lot as the one that my friends were using. Should I continue to go ahead and use it? Anyone else have troubles with MarineLand heaters?

Now that I think about it, my 400watt that stuck was a MarineLand.

Here is a link to the thread about my friends exploding heater:

EXPLODING HEATERS!!

For me... all I have to hear is one person had a bad experience with a model and im done. Ill pay a little more to save on X_amount on the fish I have invested.

So... I would not use them. Depending where you got them, take them back or exchange them

I do Stealth when I need a heater

FYI, Marineland makes Stealth heaters and they are talking about the stealth Pros.

Many people have had bad experiences with every one of the Stealth brand heaters, including myself.

I have the Visi~Therm, doesn't say stealth anywhere on the package. But its the same lot # as the exploding Stealths.

What other heater brands are there? I used to have some EboJager, but haven't seen them for sale in a long time, at least in the LFS. I mostly just see MarineLand. :(

What is another quality heater? Up to 300watts at least, larger better.

:WHOA: It didnt hit me till right now. Then I read you guys posts

I never heard of them exploding. Now you got me worried

I have switched to the Jagers (I think). I would post a link but the Jehmco site isn't working this morning. www.jehmco.com

On big setups (200+ gallons), I buy titanium heaters with controllers or running my Jagers on controllers. I feel a lot more comfortable with these.

Visi-Therm is Stealth.

I just had a 300w Stealth (Brand new model with LED on/off light) from Dr. Foster Smith die after a week. It was making a sort of sizzling noise for a day or so, which I found rather odd but thought maybe there wasn't enough water flow near it and it was boiling the water. So I added a power head and it persisted, a few hours later it was dead and letting loads of stray voltage into the tank. I sent it back for a refund. I have had another 200w Stealth die randomly as well. The 200w, 250w x 2, and 75w Stealth I have left will be replaced as I believe they are leaking stray voltage into my tanks as well. At least the 250w ones are, if I have a cut on my hand I can feel a slight jolt when sticking my hand in the tank. I have yet to decide what I want to try next though... Leaning towards an 800-1000w single heater instead of multiple medium sized ones.

Hmm, this might be my route. Why do you do the controllers though? Wouldn't multiple heaters do the same thing? Explain please, I've never used controllers, and am curious about them and how they work exactly. The perks and what have you. LoL

Thanks for the link btw. :)

Controllers allow you to control multiple heaters from a single source. This way they all turn on/off simultaneously. You set the heaters to say 85° and plug them all into the controller which is set to say 81°. This way when the controller probe senses below 81° it will trigger on and send power to the heaters, they will all kick on because they are trying to heat the water to 85°. However once the temperature reaches the controllers preset temp of 81° it shuts off power to the heaters. You purposely leave the heaters set only a few degrees above the controllers temp in case it fails, this way they don't cook everything in the tank.
