Quarantine Tank
Lets say you have a huge pond, tank, etc. You have a ray BUT also have a fish that might guard and claim the corner of a tank.

Do you think its possible for a ray to learn to stay away from that territory or fish?

Anybody here ever observe such behavior?

My rays and territorial cichlids don't seem to notice one another. The rays stay in the sand and the cichlids stay in the middle. The FH in the tank will chase the pikes all day, but he doesn't seem to bother with the rays.

well pending on the size of the ray the ray could just pounce and smother the fish to death.... general rule is no cichlids with rays though.... it might be possible for a ray to learn to stay away(anything is possible) but i dont think so...

I think perhaps it goes against the rays nature to search and hover the bottom...

Huh??

I suppose they should be smart enough to recognize territories in a large tank. I've seen them stay away from larger wrasses in Marine tanks.

Then again, it shouldn't matter since you live in NorCal, right?

get ahold of zoo... something... i forgot his name he is in charge of the mall of america exibit and there is a huge tank that has a few motoros and stuff in, I think if the tank is large enough... it would but you would be recreating a entire lifestyle for them that isnt possible for most hobbiests

You're talking about Matt, Zoodiver.

I think that you're right about tank size playing a major role here though.
