I always add my prime first then fill up the bucket with proper temperature water. I feel this helps stir up the de chlorinator. But I usually also let it sit for 15 minutes before adding it to the tank. Is this over cautious ? Anyone know how long it takes for the stuff to work ? :)
Thanks fellas , and ladies,

Taylor

I am also curious about this if there is a definitive answer. I always add prime to the bucket after filled and stir it.

I use the python and put Prime in before I refill. That's it. Nothing has ever happened. I think everyone here(who uses pythons at least) dose the tank then refill. SO letting it sit for 15 minutes is fine. I would think that it changes it or whatever it does to the chlorine instantly. If not us python users would be screwed and have to fill buckets up over and over and over for the larger tanks. :)

Hmm I remember someone saying it spreads like milk. Which is slow :)

Sodium thiosulphate (what's in about 90% of dechlorinaters... prime include) works instantly. It just creates a reaction that rapidly off-gases chlorine.

Ok well maybe no instantly, but it works in fractions of a second.

how long before it reaches all water is up to you. if you use a python then the agitation will make it spread fairly fast.

agreed. i fill my tanks straight out of the tap. i add prime to the tank first and have never had problems

Same here. Add Prime and then refill straight from tap.
I could not imagine doing a water change from a bucket on my 300 gallon.
It would take all day.

I tried that ONCE on my 300.:ROFL:Never again!

lol so its within 5 minutes then correct? In a 5 gallon bucket well mixed ? That would be worth some ease of mind .
