Here's a couple of photos and a video i've made of the 'Lago De Illusions' salvini pair..

I haven't had them long but the salvini have spawned again, this time the eggs are at wriggler stage. Below the female looks over them.

Wait, Salvini belongs to the genus Heros?

Not quite, they are orphaned at the moment ... but since Heros was the last, valid genus that they belonged to, that would be where they would reside. Most would use ex- in front of it, or have a single quote around it to denote it was Heros, but now orphaned.

That makes more sense. So previously they resided in the same genus as Severus?

Sort of. When Kullander restricted Cichlasoma to the port cichlids, most central americans resorted to the next, valid genus they were described as ... Heros. This was before Kullander restricted Heros to the severum bunch.

Alot of people use exCichlasoma for the orphans, but since Cichlasoma was restricted to the more primitive large scale cichlids, exHeros makes more sense.

nutty - Beautiful pair. I love how sharp the colors are in contrast to each other. Most in the hobby seem muddled.
