I just received my Eshopps PF-1800 1600gph overflow and I was wondering there were any adjustments I need to make to it. Most U-tubes that I have seen have the valve on the top to pull out air, but this U-tube does not. Are they necessary? Is their anything else I should do to make this work at its best?

wow, what size tank is that going on?

most of the cpr units that have the continuous syphon use what you were mentioning, that suck the air build up out of the u-tube.

It's just a 220, but my DIY overflow weren't cutting it, so I figured I might as well spend the money on the largest one I could, even if I don't use all its potential.

Well I've done my first modification on the setup and that is to implement my own version of the Stockman standpipe. Because the overflows are 1.5" the normal design would not work, but I struggled finding a new design that would allow a larger pipe. My problem is that the back of the overflow is only 3" wide. Well I wanted to use 3" pipe to make the outer portion of the standpipe, but it clearly did not fit and they don't readily make or possibly carry 2.5" white PVC. So I headed off to the electrical department for some of the gray PVC (I don't really know what the difference is), but needless to say they make it in 2.5"!!! Of course it wasn't as easy to make it all fit because Lowes didn't carry 2.5" to 1.5" bushings. So I spent 15 minutes working over ideas in my head and I finally came to this result.

Not sure if that whole paragraph makes sense, but I like the final result. Know I just need someone to help me take my dang canopy back off so I can finish re-plumbing the tank. *** Never attach plumbing to the canopy. It's been the worst decision I ever made. It's almost impossible to take off even with couplings. Although if I would have designed it just a bit better this wouldn't be a problem :)

NICE WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
thats Pretty Cool

Awesome mod on the ehopps. How's the noise level on that thing? I've got a U-tube siphon on my overflow. I start it by putting airline tubing in to suck the air out and the force of the water rushing through it is enough to push any air bubbles out.
