Okay guys I havent been posting for a little while because I have been building this beast in my spare time the past few weeks.
So far its been going really good no major problems and since I did not know how to lay block I am really impressed with the knowledge that I have gotten from the internet and MFK for it.
So the dimensions of it thus far are:
110" at the back along the wall.
80" wide
64" for the front with the spot for the viewing glass
40" is the length of the wall from the front of the tank to the intersecting wall that runs to the back of the pond
47" is the other wall that connects to the left side
41" to the back of the wall
59" tall
making 1808 gallons (see pic for dimensions if you are confused)
I have the block mortared into the foundation of my house with rebar that is drilled into the foundation 4.5" deep. The blocks will be filled with cement when I get to that part of it.
The next step is figuring out how to insulate the floor. I am thinking of putting 2 x 4's standing up with styrofoam in between them with 3/4" plywood on top and then pouring in the cement floor. could I get some feedback on this?
Apperance: When this pond is to be finished it will look like a pond in the middle of a tropical cave. The walls will all look like rock (styrofoam maybe) with plants growning everywhere (real and fake) a waterfall in the left hand corner. There will be the viewing pane of glass in the front so that you can see the fish swimming from under the water as well.
I am going to seal in the pond with glass and clear vinyl (the perfectly clear thick stuff they use on sails) so that fish do not jump out and it will help to control the humidity. The top viewing glass / vinyl will have bamboo framing around it to complete the tropical look. The celing will also be rock looking material of some sort.
Filtration: I have a sand filter and 1 HP pump that will be doing the most of the filtration, then I am going to have a 30 gallon barrel full of bio balls being my overflow waterfall in the left corner.
Lighting: I am not sure what I am doing as of yet I need to make sure that when I put it in I wont get reflection off of the surface of the water.
Also I am going to make my own moon lighting. and a light behind the waterfall for a cool effect.
Humidity: I am going to close in the pond with glass / clear vinyl with bamboo framing to make it look like a tribal pond. so that there is not going to be as big of a deal with humidity I will probably get a dehumidifier and some exhaust fans built in just to be safe. I would love to know what you guys think of this.
Looking forward to answering questions, getting some feedback, and some ideas to help me along the way.
