I was thinking about a thread that showed the amazing growth rate of a Pacu and I thought it was very interesting.

However I feel that I may now have an animal whose growth rate out performs the Pacu! Ive heard with enough feeding and the right snake you can get these guys to almost 10 feet in the first year :WHOA:

So I will be posting monthly pics of my new growing ]V[onster! :headbang2

The Burmese Python

I will try to get a more official pic of him next to a tape measure later today for the official growth comparison pic.

Glad you're doing this, it will also be a nice thing for you to look back on yourself. I used to do it a lot with my animals, but I have slacked off lately

What is his potential size? I understand they will eventually consume a full grown rabbit every week?

as a male that I plan to feed in a higher than normal amount he should reach anywhere from 12' to 15' in 2 years

I don't know if hyperfeeding that snake is the best idea. It keeps growing for it's entire life. In a few years you could have a 25ft snake weighing close to 300 pounds. I could can buy a nile crocodile over the internet, but it's probably not a good idea to put a baby in my pond. I hope you don't have any small children around. I would hate to explain why my neighbors 2 year old is in my snakes belly.

Over feeding, to max size, in the least amount of time, is only going to kill your snake.

As I explained in your other thread, he needs to be on a 4 day, rat pup, feeding schedule right now. No more than that, even tho as a burm, they'll want more. When he reaches the appropriate length, that feeding schedule will drop down to once a week.

10 feet, in the first year, is not a healthy or realistic goal. My 10 month old female Burm is pushing 7 feet and extremely healthy. She feeds on 2 large rats, once a week and would take 10 more, if I'd give them to her. But, it's not healthy.

My 13' - 14' female Burm gets a 4lb rabbit, every 1.5 - 2 weeks.

Im not going to trade health for size. Im just going to feed enough so he grows fast and is healthy. When did I say I would over feed? If hes not 10 ft in a year thats fine but ive heard that 10 ft can happen with some snakes who grow fast on an individual basis. And out of the 8 snakes from this batch that I chose from it was by far the largest so theres a good chance I have a fast grower. I just talked to a guy who used to breed burms and he said his would reach 10' to 12' in a year regularly. I know they can get obese so I will take the necessary steps to prevent that. Ive only fed him once so far so its not like im cramming food down his throat as we speak.

when I said higher than normal all I mean is that I will feed him enough to promote the best possible growth and health. I have heard of people who will feed less and have heard of a snake that only reached 10 feet in 7 years :WHOA:
