I sold a bunch of Festae fry to one of my lfs and made sure they new they were F1's. I went in a few days later and the tank was labeled Wild Caught Festae. :screwy: They gave me $2.50 in store credit and had them for sale at $19.99/ea. Needless to say, their repution went down the toilet with me.

Wow, they only gave you $2.50 in store credit, how many frys did you give them?

I dont normally care, unless I wanted to breed them. Im find with either CB or WC. But I do have some WC fish right now. Got them off a vendor here, and I can only take their word for it. I guess you just gotta trust their reputation.

the only way i can trust wild caught fish is beucuase i get them from the actual men who went to the places and caught the fish themselves out of river and lakes. ;)

If you catch a pbass in Florida is it "wild caught", it came from captive breeding, or do you have to catch the fish from it's native waters?

If a fish was captive bred and released it's considered feral, not wild. What I don't know is if they stock Florida lakes and rivers with wild caught or captive farm bred Pbass...probably the latter. And what are the offspring considered to be?

Good question... I'm curious what others think...

Personally... I would consider any fish, or it's decendants, that was born in captivity NOT a wild caught fish...

If it is, then I can release my Blue Dempseys in my pond in my back yard, catch them a week later and claim I'm the first to catch wild caught Blue Dempseys... which obviously shouldn't be valid...

PS - Woofy, I'm not suggesting you did or would consider released fish F0... just sharing my opinion coincidencly after you made your post... (People have been taking a lot out of context lately, so I feel I should cover my butt) lol

I think "introduced" would be a better desciptive than feral . At least in the Florida case. In others "released" is probably more acurate. Either way the decendents of the vanguard population would be wild ,but of an introduced population rather than a native wild population . I will say though that while I would consider them wild I would want to know that they were from and Introduced population (ie Florida P.bass) or from a native population (ie SA P. bass). Just my take on it though .

well what i meant was that the only way i trust people selling wild caught cichlids for example or other fish is becuas i know th peopl who personally go to south and central america into the rivers and such and net these fish out of there natural habitat and bring them back.....that for me is wild caught. i didnt mean those that go to local canals and fish out a midas and TADA wild caught...no.

and about pbass. there are canals here that are full of them. but there are also little lakes in parks and things that are full of pbass too but these are brought in and put there, where they get them from i would like to know, is it a local farm or are they actually wild caught?
