*****Uruguayan Cichlids*****

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most of those listed are species of earth eaters, gymnogeophagus to be exact. They are peaceful and neat fish! I have 3 G. n. sp. "Sequiera" and as of recently 3 G. labiatus. Very easy to take care of and get up to 6" or so. Felipe has a great site that has pretty much all the cichlids http://aqvaterra.com/

Any specific questions?

Some of the Gymnos need a cooling off period, and generally prefer a cooler temp than many other new worlds are normally kept at. I tried keeping them (balzani and labiatus)in the past at normal tropical temps without success.
The ones I have now, Gymno sp Paso Pache have thrived at temps between 60'F and 70'F'.

I find them less aggressive than many of the Vieja or Parachhromis types and would hestitate to keep those together with Gymnos.
