I went to this LFS today:

http://riverdalepets.com/

First, they're gonna take my compressus off my hands for store credit which is good even though I hate to see him go.

Second, this place was amazing! The pics on the website don't lie. He had 5-6 12+ inch rhoms one of which was a blue diamond. He had a tank full of unidentified serra fry, and atleast one of every other serra imaginable. Geryi, shoal of spilos, manueli, so many smaller rhoms I lost count. He also had 5 9-10" yellow pirayas in separate tanks, a huge shoal of caribes 6-7", and several nice shoals of big RBP's. They also had every monster cichlid imaginable too. I spotted umbee, dovii, couple of types of pbass, veija synspilum, etc. There were other predators too. Wolf tetras, payara, fahaka, etc.

Over all I was impressed. They had quite the collection.

He had pbass, payara, umbees, and dovii? I need to make a trip up there. You remember how big or $ they were? It's about an hour drive for me... I haven't been there in a while.

the dovii were small like 3-5" in a huge tank like a breeding colony, and I only saw one fish that appeared to be an umbee, it was about 6". Everything was in unlabeled tanks with no scientific names, few common names, and very few prices. In fact the only thing I remember seeing labeled with a price were the piraya at $500 bucks but they were yellow as a canary and flawless. Some of the bigger rhoms had chimples. I was sort of disoriented. I believe I saw payaras. They were small. You put me in a room with that many rare fish and I have a hard time concentrating. Tanks were clean. He had all kinds of stuff. Well worth checking out. He had one rhom which must have been around 16".

He had 4 or 5 comps. They were in tiny tiny holding tanks. I hope Darwin sells quickly. =(

he actually had what appeared to be a manueli in one of those tiny comp tanks. Don't know if he was confused or what, but it was clearly not a comp.

Damn! I wish our LFS were like that, our shops are like Goldfish, Guppies, Neon Tetras, Cardinal Tetras, Angelfish, Plecos and then each shop will have something different to the others. So one shop might have a BGK, Widow Tetra, Oscar, Aro, Silver Dollar (if you are lucky) Green Terror (Only seen 1 so far). Other than that the shops then have different types of the fish they stock.

Though maybe it is a good thing the LFS are not like that here because my room would be filled with tanks having different types of piranha and such and i'd be sleeping on the floor

I might make a trip up there this weekend. Been looking to get a small dovii and payara...

yeah like I said the tanks were unlabeled and I am no expert so I might call first before I made the hike over there and make sure I wasn't mistaken, but I think I saw both. Also I don't know if he has a breeding pair or what, but there were several what appeared to be grow out tanks full of what looked like wild Ex. C. festae.

you will be RICH in no time (if they sell it cheap)

its like $200 per fish here (Canada), IF they are avaliable

yeah I think the two juvies they have at that LFS are like 180 or something if I'm not mistaken and they require a water sample from your tank before they'll sell them to you.
