Ive never done a sump filter before and I am curious.
How do you make water go down the sump and up back at the aquarium without using submersible pumps? hmmm?

and how big should my sump be if I were to use it for a 75?

I need a DIY sump tutorial, any links there? :D

You need a pump or no sump. Search DIY sump on google

someone told me I can use "gravity" to bring the water down the sump. anyways, do I use two pumps? (one going down the sump and another inside the sump going to the aquarium)
all I can see in google is saltwater sumps.

its the same thing really in theory. personally i use a sump system in my snakehead tank that was originally designed for a marine aquarium. basically my tank is drilled at the top left with pipeing down to the left hand sump (gravity feed) which is where i have my bioballs sponges etc there is a pipe that has been drilled into the bottom of that tank which leads to my right hand sump which is where i dose anything and bread feeder fish this is a bare tank for me with only my return pump and obviously the fish. the return pump in this tank returns the water back up and into the tank in the far right corner of my tank. hope this helps

almost the something ive been picturing in my head :) gravity feed is where im curious. Im planning not to drill my tank, is there anyway that the water would go to the sump by itself without drilling? or do I need a pump?

Im planning to just stick the pipe in the tank without drilling

you use a overflow to get water down to the sump (gravity fed siphon) and a pump to get it back up check the diy overflow sticky for how to build an overflow yourself.)

as for how the sump itself it designed if being used for freshwater i'd recommend a wet/dry sump (i built my own and its working great )

a wet/dry filter(or sump) works by having water trickle over a drip tray (peice of plastic with holes in it) and "trickling" down over some sort of media. (pot scrubbers or bioballs)

you can either place a mechanical prefilter abover the tray and have water pass through it or you can do what i did and have a separate chamber before the wet/dry chamber and put your mechanical filtration media in there. (and your heaters too!) you need this mechnaical media to avoid your bio media getting built up with detrius you need to periodically rinse out the mechanical media to remove the things its trapped

and there ya go that is basicaly how a wet/dry sump works. how you build it is up to you im sure someone else can help in that department, this post is long enough :nilly:

if you dont have a tank yet go to cartimar the 75 g you want is 1.5k another 150 pesos you get a drilled tank and you can also order a sump there no need to do diy

You do use gravity to bring the water down to the sump just as every canister filter does but gravity won't take the water back up to the tank, its impossible. you need a pump no matter what.

That is exactly what you need. You could use a 29G for the sump if you don't want to buy one.

I already have the tanks. Im finishing the the setup and the filters. I made a DIY stand, I didnt know you can order a sump in cartimar. thanks for the heads up :)
