You do realize that you put the cardboard/shim under the end of the tank that has the lowest level of water, right?
Oh really??!? seems to me, if you shim the side of the tank with the lowest water level, you'd be making it LOWER... and that would be making it worse for level...

If you raise the high water side, it will equal out to the low water side...;) :D

I love my 72x18 steel stand from big al's.

you can shim the legs as necessary and be done with it. I made maple "feet" for mine and glued wood as necessary to the bottom of the feet to shim the legs as needed.

they are not expensive at all - $150 canadian. I have my 150g on one:

very strong and will last a lifetime.
My 225g acrylic sets on a metal stand I built and welded myself it's 30''x30''x72" 2" square tubing, and it cost me more than that for just the steel...
$150.00 CND is worth it, just to solve the leveling problems...;):D

I see what you mean.

$150 saves a lot of work, worry and hassle...

hell, selling the cabinet stand would probably pay for the steel tube stand..

the 72x18's are made with 1.5" steel tubing.
yup, if i had that kinda headache to level my wooden stand it would be kindling in no time...LOL

do you know the wall thickness of that tubing is? .062" .125" ?

not sure, but I have been using same type of steel stand from the same people for 20 years. my old fishroom was full of them:

i had a 90 and 65 stacked on one stand for 15 years. it was only 1 inch tubing and it was solid, so it can't be thin walled..

unless you get a defective weld, I don't think structural integrity is a problem with these stands.

Ok thanks for all the help!

My dad did me a favour today and picked up the metal stand from BA Scarborough... and that place can burn in hell for all I'm concerned.

When I saw the stand, I thought it was picked up off the curb. It's scratched pretty much everywhere, and the plastic feet are scratched top and button.

The metal is scratched on both sides, one side really badly like somebody took iron wool to it.

This is completely unacceptable!!! It's practically a used stand!

The manager at BA told my dad that if they order another one they can't guarantee it's condition either. and they said that "it wasn't that bad".

What should I do?

EDIT: My dad even asked for a discount, they wouldn't do it. Whoever owns BA Scarborough has serious issues.

Get out your power sander and smooth out the scratches and then paint it the color you wish...Sometimes it just goes like that...That's why I built and finished my own...;)
