So I've mainly seen people getting chillers for their SW tanks, and I was wondering why that is. Is it to cool down the water because the lights heat it up too much?
yes for a sw /reef tank you don't want the water to go above 80-82
Ad all the pumps and lights usually heat the water..
Or in the summer when the temp climbs up you dont want to lose all your spendy stuff.
it has alot to do with to much heat from high powered metal halides over a big reef tank, living in hot climates or other reasons. Most can be avoided with proper planning, and seeking out proper ways to avoid hefty prices of a chiller.
