Koi are incredible amazing fishies... They can survive blizzards like these:

And they can also survive an hellish heat wave like the one shown in DVD by "cooling off" under the fountain!

Nice video, Jonnie. Don't those frogs drive you crazy? Or does the video make them sound louder than they really are?
Hi Teacher, thanks. I fooled you. The mating calls are from a Froggie Chorus CD. I played it while video-taping the fishies.

Guys, a possible aeration problem does pop up into my mind during the heat waves. Hmm... after all, it's always better to be safe than sorry. I increased the pump power and hooked up 2 fountain-shower-heads to oxygenate the water. See photos:

my ponds been as warm as 86 degrees on a very hot spell here. i had no issues. no gasping for air, nothing. main thing is make sure the aeration is very good.

i dont think those fountain heads are aerating as you think they are. i would lean more towards a small waterfall weir with a nice crisp water flow over it in a clear cascade pooring into the water. this is what mine does and i can see the aeration under the surface same as an air stone would produce. and i have a 5000 gallon pond including my filtration with 14 koi in it right now. no issues.

Curiously... another ponder's (Mr. Rstimeout) koi is also gasping for air eventhough he gets 3 WATERFALLS and 2 AIR BUBBLERs...Hmm... I wonder why?

See how the koi is gasping for air thru its mouth as it were talking to Mr. Rstimeout (You'll see it from Markers 1:00 through 1:50.)
