How would you stock a 42000 gallon indoor tank/pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A native community with:

1 American Paddlefish, Polyodon spathula
15+ Pumpkinseeds, Lepomis gibbosus
15+ Bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus (Knowing how prolific these are, I don't doubt a considerable number would survive the catfish. And I'd guess the same would be true of the Pumpkinseeds.)
1-3 Channel Cats, Ictalurus punctatus (I would probably go albino for these to add some color.)
5 Black Buffalo, Ictiobus niger (This could be subsituted for an equal number of common carp, but they're invasive, so they, in my mind, shouldn't be included in a native tank.)

Hmm, I wonder how much space a paddlefish would need as a specimen...

If I had the money for a 42,000g pond...I would raise it a couple feet up with side viewing windows, first off. :) That would be a must.

From there...I wouldn't know where to start, haha!

A natural landscape tank, pick a region or species, and then mimic the natural habitat as much as possible.

A fun one would be a school of Pacu's that you let breed out of hand.
Maybe an arapaima for class.

Or the lone electric eel :P

or i could just get fish that people need to get rid of bc they get too big for their tank and put them in as a random fish setup in the monster tank.

That would be a good thing to do. I would hate to try keeping a tank that large heated, but IF you are going to do it I like the idae of adopting any and all fish in that situation. They won't all get along, but 42,000 gal should be plenty space to make it a safe haven for most of them. Just add plenty drift wood, and a lot of rocks to create plenty of caves

Lake trout

brook trout

arctic char

grayling

sturgeon

maybe pike/muskie

walleye

paddlefish

Inconnu whitefish

(Note this is if possible and probably not all at once, schools of the trout would probably be my choice with sturgeon, inconnu, and paddlefish
