Loubard,
Dats are not usually available around here. I was able to get 8 IT´s: 3 from an LFS and 5 others from a friend. And also bought 6 AT (import via Glasser). They´re all young atm: the At´s around 1-1,5"; 5 IT around 3" and 3 around 5". They´re all in a 4x2x2´tank.

The idea is to separate them. This tank will be for the IT´s (with maybe a few c. loaches and 1 or 2 extra tankmates) and the one they´re currently in for the AT´s.

Once the AT´s mature, I may be go brackish on their tank -still considering that. I´m trying to understand their sg needs but so far with no success. I´ll keep searching.

(p.s.: I also have my eye on Miguel´s dats...)

Nice, everything is looking great. Can't wait for the next update.

Here it is.

Lot´s of invisible work tonight (electric system, pumps, plumbing, etc) - but some visible too!

The UV lamp is already in place

as well as the pumps: 1000g/hr for return and 700g/hr for the UV+ wet/dry system

then it was time to wash the sand: 50kg of it
20110201003.jpg

and... I decided to wash it in the tank.
after putting it in: looked like Mars

So, I just pressed the "on" button and the tank is running with dirty water. This is just to wash the sand and test everything.

I´ll do a 100% WC before adding the BB media (that is already cycling in another tank).

Hopefullt this weekend will be "day 1" of the new tank: I´ll remove 1/3 of the media of the 4x2x2`, put in this one and.. here we go !

Two last news for the journal:
- the driftwood I was waiting for (from Malaysia) is late. It´ll take 10 more days;
- I already ordered the FX5, it should be here by the end of next week

That´s all folks !

Update

I found some driftwood that I liked. It´s already (floating) in the tank

And I made the wet/dry.

The step-by-step can be seen in this thread:
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391420
so I won´t duplicate it here. But here is a short version

a bucket with 40h x 37d cms (16"h x 15" diameter)

a shower head

putting it together

and testing (with the bioballs the water will spread, of course)

and here the wet/dry in place (the area on the left of the sump is for the FX5)

Lol that's a pretty cool bucket wet/dry you got going there. Never thought to use a showerhead for the spread. That's a nice piece of driftwood in there, hopefully it sinks soon.
