Guangzhou Fischer Chemical Co has a very porous ceramic media and can be bought cheap (checking price now) has to be ordered 1 ton min. I know I could easily find use for 30-40 lbs. of the stuff anyone else interested in buying a fairly large quantity? from the prices ive seen posted it should be about 10% of the cheapest retail ive ever seen. Im not looking to make money just set up a group purchase so we can all reap the benefits of cheap media. any thoughts?

they also have kaldness k1. might be better choice for shipping from china purposes?

exactly. its gonna take the pond and mega tank guys as well. 2000 lbs. that's 50 people wanting 40lbs. each!!!!!!!!!!! im trying to get an idea on prices.

they have a couple, which one are you talking about?
I was thinking of doing something like this with alfa grog (it's actually one word, but gets censored-al***rog) which seems to have a lot more surface area than the ceramic rings, especially the e25 size. it also seems to be much cheaper, but the shipping costs are really high.

Just did a search for you on the ups website if you were to ship 40lbs cross country it would cost 60$, 20lbs would cost 33$. I don't know your city's locale to give a better estimate but I thought I'd help with some info.

Here's a link to their calculator

Usps flat rate shipping boxes 70 lbs. For like 15 bucks as long as it fits in the box. That said i dont know how much the box filled up would actually weight so i dont know if its a better deal or not?

It may be easier to do a group buy of this stuff vs. China media. What are the cost breakdowns. Looks like good stuff. At the moment im using polyfill loose batting its cheap but im not certain how effective yet. A drawer full of ceramic or alfarog would be sick!

well, in the US it's called supra, made by ani mate, and they want $13.48 for 18 ounces. http://www.pet-mate.com/us/ShopOnline.aspx?action=Search&product_id=272&department_id=3
In the UK, they pay a few nickles over 1$ a lb. the manufacturers website in the UK is www. .com with the media name in the middle. no point in typing it, MFK's filters would censor it and it wouldn't take you anywhere. I have no idea how much you would need to order or the shipping rates.
I tried ordering a 15kg bag at one place...
