bulk ceramic media order?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the 20l of pond matrix from amazon weighs 40+lbs, so the price is pretty close. especially with free shipping. I think it was 46 lbs with the bucket.
matrix is supposed to help with nitrates though, the ceramic rings are only for ammonia and nitrites.
I've got the 20l of matrix and have been buying the alfa grog in 2lbs bags for 10$. I've got 12 lbs so far. I'm going to mix the two together in my sump.

there is a fair bit of work in bulk orders. can't really blame you for not doing it.

$2110 moq price per ton standard packaging. Really good looking porous as hell stuff. https://mail-attachment.googleuserc...340036360114&sads=ntGjlNMLMWIqMwSWqM5_V-X_0tY
I really doubt that link will work correctly but thought i could try.
they also have another ceramic media that is more like others ive had and seen it is 1260 ton moq price.

there is also a glass ceramic ring option at $860 but from picture it seems much smoother.

moq minimum order quantity. lcl loads will be exw. less then container loads will be sitting in china in a box outside the manufacturers shop waiting for pickup. 1 ton would fall under lcl category.

Another provider who has bacteria house bakki shower media which is like corncob size (i think) will sell in smaller bulk then one ton more like 500lbs. tbey were wanting a destination port though so if someone on the west coast would like to step on rg at one it would make more sense ill turn info. Over to them otherwise ill ask for a delivered to address price.

How does pond matrix do more then other products? The microbe lift has some kind of nitrifying bacteria already in it? Sounds like a joke to me but?
Amazon had it listed az 7lbs. Of product (which now that i think about it a 5.3 gallon bucket full of 7 lbs. Of ceramic media is a rediciuolis notion)

On another note if u heat ceramic at 1600 degrees for 24 hours it will become extremely porous and u could make your own. Ive got a lot of bitunimious coal here (i haul it on a train) im probally just crazy.

Agreed. I don't like matrix never have, just cuz they make prime doesn't mean its as good and it reduces nitrates?? Lol thought only plants and wc did that, matrix looks and feels like rocks, obviously it will hold bb but when compared to ceramic or chem stars Imo its no contest! Chem stars are my fav by far

well I was more asking how then saying it couldnt but i suppose thats what I was thinking.
so do u believe that ceramic media has more surface area then the pond matrix? (the one on amazon for that price is called that but isnt branded seachem?)

Yes imo and from other sources (lfs and friends)

some ceramic media like aquaclear doesn't have a hollow middle so that has to cut surface area in half and its a fact that api chem stars are more pouros then ceramic.

Matrix is just a cheap solution to house media, it works fine but there are better materials out there. fluval cnodes are prlly the best next to chem stars

matrix doesn't have bacteria in it, it has to be cycled. actually double cycled. first for the aerobic bacteria, then for the anaerobic. it's supposed to reduce nitrates because when the aerobic bacteria colonize the outside, anaerobic bacteria colonize the inside. they use nitrates for energy production instead of O2.
when I look at amazon's listing for a 5G bucket of matrix it says-
Product Dimensions: 12.5 x 12.5 x 19.8 inches ; 22.4 pounds
Shipping Weight: 47.2 pounds
I don't know where they get the 22.4 lbs from but the shipping weight is pretty close to what I weighed it at.
and it is made by seachem, the logo on the bucket is too small to see in the pics.

matrix may look and feel like rock, but it isn't. it's sintered glass. it's hollow passages throughout the entire media. which allows multiple types of bacterial colonization. which is why it's so light.

interesting info, I'd like to see your sources.
give this a read.

according to that, matrix in the same volume as the compared substrates, has much more surface area. granted, it is put out by seachem, but I don't see anything similar from fluval or eheim. the chinese spec sheets for ceramic media that I've seen back this up with lower surface area numbers and higher densities.

the microbe lift ceramic media comes in a 7 gallon pail at 40 lbs.

while the pond matrix comes in a 5.3-5.8 gallon pail and weighs in at 45-47 lbs.

does that mean the pond matrix is more dense then the microbe lift ceramic media?

Im still looking at importing bulk if anyone is still interested in that.
