I can barely tell the difference between my rock bass and your shadow bass. Might have to do with me being new to this family of sunfish :)
If you ever want any rocks, let me know! I'd be willing to mail it out to ya.

To be fair, even researchers can't tell shadow and regular rock bass apart sometimes. :grinno:

I'm convinced where the ranges overlap they kind of just guess...

The only reason I know these are shadow bass is rock bass aren't found in my area.
 
Heather thats an excellent photograph of that male blacktail shiner (that must have been difficult to take), it is just fantastic looking,....are they native to southeast mo.?

Yup, they're native. Very prevalent here. All over the black river and st francis.
