Well in the early days of my garden there wasnt much of a show! so i picked up some baby bamboo!(no like the kind you get at stores!) these grew to me 8ft tall! and were very thin! but over the years they got thicker and thicker and taller and taller! until at the point this year where some were over 20feet tall and an inch thick! This isnt bad it looked great but 3-4 years ago we added and inground 2,000 gallon pond! and the bamboo looked great next to the pond! but every year a hole got in the liner mostly because something fell in (rocks etc.) so we would have to move the fish take out the liner and find the hole and patch it! So we put in a water fall too! and this water fall looked sweet! until a root grew in to the pond! and then another! so this summer i took it a part and counted the holes! 8 holes! so well i put linoleum down under the liner for the water fall! but i knew these roots would get through that! so i spent a couple weeks choping down this dumb bamboo!
I am still not done! i still am not done chopping all the roots! i am using this pick axe with a broad edge! and it bent that pick axe! (crap!) so i went and got another! and i guess i will have to finish chopping these roots this week!
so lesson! never put bamboo too close to a pond! it will get bigger and bigger and keep adding runners closer and closer to your pond!(watch out for runners!)
so just dont get bamboo for your pond unless contained buy an inch of stainless steel! (even then i dont kno if your safe!)
