Finally took the plunge.....

I am working with a freebie 7 foot piece of glass. It was a 9/16 laminated glass (tempered) that is 22.25 inches high. Perfect.

The sealing will be done with epoxy. Maybe with marine gel coat with color additive mixed in.

I have bought three eight foot two by fours and have already begun measuring and cutting the four pieces i will use for my front face (glass frame). I opted to not make it out of once piece of plywood for two reasons: First, 2x4's are prettier and require less work to finish than plywood, and two, its cheaper than buying another sheet of ply just for cut out a chunk in the middle and toss it (as i have no use for it as far as the rest of the tank goes).

Planning on just under 200 gallons. Maybe bigger if i decide that it doesn't need to fit through a door. :naughty:

wat software you used to sketch it out???

it looks like autocad or sketch up

you can always make it bigger and still get it through the door, just make it 2ft deep or 2 ft high (I would opt for the 2 ft high cause of the score on the free glass) and then make it deeper for more turn-around space or whatever for your fish. Good luck, ours has been quite the learning experience, but it will certainly be worth it!

Solidworks 2007

sweet, i baerly got mine but havent installed it. okay off topic....
well good luck on the project

Thanks....i really need to move on this thing cause i got a Pacu and seven clowns in a 55 giving me dirty looks.....

Also....once i finish this I will upload the solid works model if anyone is interested in fiddling with it. The dimensions can be easily modified. In fact, just plop in the size of the glass and the whole box is automatically resized. Cool huh? That is of course if my plans suit your tastes....

I can't believe I am actually doing this...

I have also included a picture of my chihuahua....since everyone who builds ply tanks usually posts a pic of their animals in it...or themselves.... lol

Looks good so far but I think your going to need a bigger tank for that dogfish in the last shot.
