Oahu Grown!
just picked up a 125gal for $80 and a 8" temensis. my original plan was to do a cinder block stand. but my neighbor saw me carrying the tank in and asked where my stand was and I told him about my cinder block idea and suggested that he would help me build a stand and that he has everything besides wood to do one up so here it is 90% complete all it needs is a coat of poly and some trimming!!! what yout think?

Hmm... Won't the plywood help distribute the weight? I also have screws on the insides as well goin in the the 4x4 and into the 2x4, Or should I run 2x4s under, along side the 4x4s? LOL now u got me worried... Any1 else?

looks like a strong stand, might i suggest a couple of supports underneath the ply and a few diagonal supports also with ur 2x4, should make it even more stable  might i ask why the ply wood has an overlap? are you planning on trimming this off?.

Looking good either way matey cant wait to see it filled and stocked, keep us updated please :D

I think you're OK with the screw placement because the weight will be directly on top of the 4X4s. I think it would have been better to frame the 2X4s on top of the 4X4s. Top panel looks a little thin also by I have a habit of way overdoing things.
What's the bike wheel fit in the background?

So I should add 2x4s vertically along side the 4x4s to support the horizontal 2x4s? Or will it be okay as is? The extra plywood in the back is to place my multi plug cord so cords aren't seen under the stand

Your stand will be OK as is. The additional support should be taken into consideration for your next build. Great job!

I have the same concern about the weight resting on screws, but you can fix it easy. Since your top and bottom are framed with 2x4's resting on the outside of the 4x4's, simply cut 2x4's to snugly fit between the top and bottm framing, tap them into place on top of each exposed side of a 4x4, and nail/screw and glue to the 4x4. The fit will have to be tight though.

There is no weight resting on screws with this stand. the 4x4's are in direct contact witht eh plywood sheet that supports the tank thus the weight is straight downt he 4x4's. the only is with the build is that there is no shear strength built into it. if the tank gets bumped from one of the side it could collapse sideways easilly. Using cross support helps eliminate this problem.
