Any reason not to use pool filter sand as substrate for a 30L (36"x12"x16") with a sponge filter hooked up to a powerhead as filtration? Fish will be darters and shiners and I'm setting the tank up in a few minutes so any quick answers would be appreciated, I know it's last minute but the substrate I was going to use just will NOT get clean (creek rocks).

I use silica sand in all of my tanks. Rinse it well in a bucket with a hose to remove the dust (don't breathe any in, it's a carcinogen) and you're good to go. It's bad for pump impellers, but with the sponge prefilter you'll have no issues.
