I don't know about the SD, but I've had an L200 pleco for 3 years and I don't recall ever seeing him eat. Truth be told, I rarely see him. He spends most of his time hanging upside down under a piece of manzanita. Kind of an aquabat.

Keep us posted. We may be able to compare results if your light sand would bring out the colors from the dark color base of the Orbi.
I would assume that the light gravel/sand would make the dark on the BB pop more.
I did find this interesting, I will quote Jeff's exact words from an email: "The wild types generally do not display marked light/dark patterns over dark substrate. I’ve learned that from keeping them in bare tanks, natural tan gravel/sand, and black gravel/sand."
I have mine on a light sand and it does seem like it shows its colors better.

Quick vid before feeding tonight.
http://youtu.be/y0DdUAy38OE

Everyrhing has really calmed down much less aggression im not sure that they are all adjusted to being moved into the new tank. The hrp used to have a huge appetite but now he just seems to pick at scraps and of course the new fish (sd's and L200) arent eating from what I can tell. Though one of the sd's did nibble on a pellet. Wife also said the L200 was out and about hiding much less today.

Nice set up!

My L200 took quite a while to gain the confidence to come out. I have had him about 2 months and now he is always out and about eating with the other fish. One way I would guarantee seeing him is to put some cougette/zucchini in the tank, he loves it!!
