I caught this carp today by accident. Foul hooked it on its dorsal fin. It took about 5 min to bring it in. Very strong fish my scale battery died but im guessing 7-10lbs

I use grippers for all of my larger catches and I never see any physical problems with the fish afterwards, you really can't be holding walleye without them (which are relatives to Zander to give you an idea of what they look like since you're over in Europe and probably don't have walleye).

and technically carp are invasive yes but they live everywhere in the continental US and there's no getting rid of them now or ever so I treat them like natives. I love carp, such friendly easygoing fish :)
Sorry might have missed this comment. You can easily gillgrip pike and zander, done that meny times my self, my brother too.
From my understanding is that, the jaws and the heads cant take all the weight being put there. When you gillgrip big pike, you also need to support the body. I have also heard that lipgrips just over all damage the jaws of the fish. Just like you cant weight pike or zander on just the "hook" on a fish scale if you wanna release them, you have to use a weighing back/sling, carp too.

Weathers cooling off here in FL and big bass should be coming out soon. Had one bite 2 weeks ago that moved the jon boat a couple of feet only to spit the hook =(. All underwater, never broke the surface for size reference.

But I'm confused by this lake that I fished at the shop that I work at. Caught probably 30 dink LM's. One solid bite that took the speedworm off the hook in 1 tap. This is what's really getting me. I caught a decent sized tilapia on a rooster tail WTF?
