I just bought some rainbow platys from petco. Kept them in a clear isolation chamber for a day to see how the current residents would react to them. I let them out today and there has been no signs of foul play. They ate with the other fish when fed and have been nipping at the floating bits of algae all day. One has what looks like an umbilical cord, prolapse, or parasite coming out of its ventral caudal region. A small part has fallen off and I have not seen any autonomous movements from any part of it. The fish does not seem to be in any distress. Any ideas/advice?

I'm starting to think it was feces. Both of our platy's are showing the same thing and the color has turned from pale to brown.
