and they will follow you around the room and greet you but IMO cichlids once trained are much more personal to there owners much like dogs are they beg for food at the surface where as a jar will just lurk around until something hits the water then smash it (hence the watch your fingers its quite a shock once there 1ft +)

ATM the pond is holding the arapaima and a rtc the arapaima is at least 18 inches give or take. my tank has a silver currently my plan will be to house the jardini alone and move the silver to the pond once the arapaima is goneWhat's in the pond ? I'm presuming it'll be going in there eventually ? I'd go for it at least you can house him forever unlike the paima if your anything like me once you've owned a fish and grown it up it'll be hard to let it go lol
As long as its in good health I say go for it you've got enough space to deal with aggression towards tankmates , a lot more than I have to deal with ATM
