Hi Guys,

Wanted to get an ID confirmation on my fish. This was sold to me as a Texas Cichlid. However, I think this is something different. I have attached two pics of the same fish, need help from you guys. It probably has a sunken belly too?

Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
It is a female of the Herichthys cyanouttatus/carpintus group.
Many of the species look very similar, hard for me to tell them apart.
Here is an H carpintis chairel

below a tamasopoensis.

there are a few others that look very similar including minckleyi, deppi, and tepehue.

THanks for the confirmation guys. I had read that Texas and Pearlscale Cichlid are different and wanted to check with you all on this forum.

Thanks again!

H. Caprintis female. This is the problem with common names. People call 2 different sp. the same name, so you don't know what you are getting. The main difference is the spots and pearling. H. cyano has the small pearls where caprintis has big ones like your fish.

Yes is truth, common name sometimes confuses.

Left (H. cyanoguttatus)- right (H. carpintis)

Thanks guys.. :) Now I am clear. I was very confused because I saw many conflicting posts about the ID on the net. Thanks to you all I know what I have in my tank. :) A very lively and interactive (plus greedy) fish it is.

Cheers.
