A wild caught pair of Chocolate cichlids, Hypselecara temporalis have just finished putting down a large spawn on the cover of a UV unit, their second such effort in three weeks. They have taken over the back right corner of a 180G tank containing Heros sp. 'Rotkeil', Heros severus, Geophagus altifrons 'Rio Tocantins', Satanoperca daemon, Satanoperca leucosticta, and a few dithers (Myleus schomburgkii). Check the intensity of the eye color . . . undoubtedly a warning to others to steer clear.

Nice video and chocolates.

I've had rotkeils typically do that also-- get the electric looking eyes (and fins). Something you've probably seen with your rotkeils as well.

Wow ...awesome and true to your writing " fire in those eyes"
Are they around the 7 - 8 inch mark?
Yes, the male is ~ 8", the female ~7".

Nice video and chocolates.

Thanks, neutrino. So many of the cichlids I keep have incredible eye color. Check these few out ... P. hartwegi, P. bifasciatus 'Rio Carolino', Heros severus, Thorichthys meeki 'Rio Subin', Hoplarchus psittacus.

Great video, u can see why most spawning cichlids can give any potential predators trouble

The pair of Chocolate cichlids are now herding their fry around their 180G tank. I have already pulled some fry, and left the rest with the parents to look after. Unfortunately, in two or three days there will be none left with the pair. Despite the parents best efforts, the fry will gradually get picked off by the other inhabitants. It's nature's way . . especially so in a closed space.
