Breeding pink cons?

I have a male-female pair of pink convicts, in a 35 gallon. And I was wondering what I need to do to breed them?

What cycling should I do?

well as most people say you add water gravel and fish, and BOOOM tons of babies. this is un-true. some people get lucky and have the breeding process happen fast. but in my point of view it takes time to raise heatly fry. dirst feed them well 3 times a day but small amounts. second make sure you have male and female. thrid change water every day but only 10% and bring the temp to 80F. fourth give them 2 flower pots to breed in.
fifth wait for them to breed and sit back and watch them parent. you may wait to remove parents once fry are free swimming but only the first time.

What should I be offering them? I have Wardley's cichlid pellets, and plankton ATM.

I'm 90% sure that it's a male-female pair. Is he supposed to be pestering her that much?

Give them more variety in their diet. Your male is probably just ready to spawn and your female isn't yet.

Seriously, most cons spawn within the week of meeting one another. My had 200 eggs within 3 hours of meeting eachother but that's different. Make sure you have a cycled tank, cave, 76-80F water, 6.4-8 pH. BOOM, fry. Males have no orange. Females have orange on thier side. Breeding cons could NOT be any easier.

Could I use a plastic flowerpot? all of my terra cotta ones have paint on them.

I know 100% that one is a female. I bought her because of her orange/pink belly.

The other one, I'm 90% sure is male, but I have a little difficulty in being 100% sure, seeing as he is dyed (I wasn't aware of this at purchase) Bright Pink.* But his belly is really pale either way, it's not colored like my females, and it just seems to be a regular pink con belly.

*Now that I know that "painted" means dyed, I'm not going to purchase a dyed fish ever again. He is my first, last, and only "painted" fish.

My Tank Setup

Don't worry about getting some kind of correct breeding pot. Anything they can take over as territory will work.
Mine breed under driftwood. I had 2 pairs breed in the same tank at the same time oddly enough under two different pieces of driftwood.

Long as you feed them good, have good water quality, and make sure you have males and females they should breed eventually. Sometimes it just takes a little while for them to pair off.
You'll have the most success if you put 2 females and 2 males, let whoever is going to pair off do it and then move the non-pairs immediately. Anyone who isn't paired will get beat up or even killed if you leave them together.'

You will know when the male is ready to spawn because they'll take over the territory. Hopefully the pot, sometimes they'll breed in a completely different part of the tank, but that's ok. You'll see him hovering over one spot and chasing everyone away from it except whatever female he chooses.

He won't hurt my female when the fry hatch, will he? If so, it looks like I'm going to have to get another Quarentine tank!!

Add a flower pot or some sort of cave. Do a 20% water change every other day and they will breed in no time.
