i just added sand to my cichlid tank and its extremly cloudy how long to u think it would be cloudy for the tank is 75 gal.:headbang2and i have the fish in a tote and im nervous to put the fish back into the tank

Did you wash the sand before you added it to the tank? Do'h! Pool filter sand or play lot sand? They both need to be cleaned, but one far less that the other.

Within reason, I don't think the fish will mind a bit of cloudyness. Hopefully it'll clear up within a day or so. However I'd listen to others with more experence than I.

You could try a major water change to get rid of some of the cloudy water. That'll get rid of a lot of the fine particles that are suspended in the water. Another possibality is to run to the store and get a 'clarifier' to add to the water. That'll cause the particles to clump together and fall to the bottom. Assuming you don't mind adding more chemicals to the water. Many are hesitant to do so.

Took mine over a week, and went through a lot of filter pads... but that was my first experiment with sand. I just used play sand, and although I washed it, there was so much cloudiness for a long time.

i got the sand from dr foster the cichlid ph stuff it said do not rinse! but alot of it went down so u dont think the fish wont mind??

Or you could empty most of the water, and then place a plate or something similar on top of the sand, then when you fill make sure the water splashes onto the plate. This will not disturb the sand much and will make it far less cloudy.

most of the water cleared up:headbang2but lol i have an under gravel air pump to i have sand all over my rocks
