I will flat out kill myself on a bike.... I want one soo bad but I know how I like to push things to the limit...
Bikes aren't that dangerous imo, its other motorists that bother me... car drivers messing with radios, kids etc that aren't paying attention. I am always reccommending people to get theire bike licences, it is an incredible feeling being on a bike.
As for pushing the limits, i'm the same, getting my bike to 250km/h is fun, but you just have to know where and when it is acceptable, track days for example.

so try it and be cautious. when people get killed is partly cuz they get cocky.
