ok well my local bigals(LFS) has a few rainbow-crabs and i want to design a open concept type tank for them with a few blue crawfish and firebelly newts. the "tank" will hopefully be around 20"-24" X 12-15" wide and 5-6" tall... totaly open from the top so i can play with them. i want something that can sit totally submerged in water that is self supporting, the water level will be around 3-4" with sand as the base. with some kind of rock waterfall opwered be a spair powerhead or two, i have a few small ones...

I plan on useing some bamboo shoots and i was looking at a mangrove tree but i dont know anything about anything when it comes to plants???

please post online pages and pictures with clear names and discriptions...

Oh the lighting will be via a celing pot light as it will be on my coffe table...

well i just did alot of reading on the raindowcrabs and as it turns out that one crab in the bowl is the max, also it needs to be half water and half land. so i need one good nice half aquatic plant, like a bonki tree or something that looks like a small orange plant that has exposed roots submerged in water... and i might have to make my own bowl thingy...

still planning on having a waterfall...

no one????, well looks like in stuck with bamboo, well i like it but would be nice to have something rarer and more exotic looking...,

I spoke to a lady at a oreantal fish store/flour shop and she said something about dragon lillies? anyone here of this???

google "Bog plants"

anubis are semi aquatic

try going down to you local garden center and getting some tropical plants, several will do well with wet roots. i've had luck with peace lillies and pothos plants(currently have FW fuge made of a pothos, AC20 and a handful of gravel)

:(, i tried that... and its a no go. they all look at me like im on drugs, they say, no that will kill a plant, you cant keep anything in water?... then i say, well what about mangroves and cattails and bamboo?, then there like we dont sell that. so i leave right away and say to them, sorry to bother you, you can go back to serving all your other customers now... and there is no one else in the store...

the one asian ladey from the fish store/flour shop said that she will be getting some lillies in that can be in water...

also dont they grow weed in water? hydroponicly? doesnt that mean that i can grow anything that way?

Yikes, thats illegal in real life AND on here!!! Ok,hydroponics only means "soil-less medium" you dont submerge the plant when growing this way.All that happens is,nutrients pass over the roots a few times a day.All hydroponics means is "grown without dirt".And ANY plant will ROT if you submerge it the way your thinking of.Hydroponics can actually be very difficult for the beginer. Now AEROPONICS,NOW youre talking:naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty::naughty:

haha nono i was just useing that as a exanple, im not a drug useing kind of guy...

but that makes sense. oh i found maini micro cat tails, they only grow to 12" tall and look exacly like the real 12' tall thing...

I might be going to the plastics shop tomarow to pick up the acrylic then i'll make a diy thread.
