I am currently debating whether or not to get a new or used car. Please provide input if you have done BOTH.

What are your thoughts on used vs. new? negatives and positives?

Thanks! - J

i prefer used. if you go w/ 04 or 05, still warranty and half cost

It all depends on what you are looking for.

I wouldn't buy a new car. I modify them too much. I'd void a warrenty in about 2 hours. Plus most of the facorty parts aren't good enough for what I do.

If you are looking for a car to get from point A to point B, I'd go fairly new, but not something from the current year. Get something a year or two old. Broken in, still warrentied and 'up to date', clean and not too beat up.

How do warrenties differ with new vs. used?

Are used ones usually less covered in terms of time?

Im just looking for a dependable commuter car, nothing fancy.

I believe with cars up to a few years old you can still get warrantys. Some are still factory warrantys, some are aftermarket warrantys for a few $ extra, etc.

I would buy a slightly used model. One or two years old. New cars decrease so much the first day you drive it off the lot.

I let someone else pay the initial depreciation.

J...I love to tinker with old used cars....My favorites are the imports of the 90's....More specifically the 1990-1992 Nissan 240 models....I transformed my last 240 into a 310 HP drifter show car....Total cost, minus labor, was just under $10,000.....

Used 1992 240sx body....$2000
Used Japanese Srt20DET Blacktop Engine(80k)....$2500
Intake, outake, suspension mods....$3000
Front S15 Conversion kit....$1500

I pretty much turned this car into a new one with my budget of 15 thousand....
