This is a common problem for many Arowana owners especially as their fish gets bigger. Arowanas have a tendency to jump, knock off the lid and fall to its death or seriously injure itself. I, for one, had the crap scared out of me when my arowana knocked the glass lid off of its tank, cracking it on the floor. My Arowana, thankfully, did not jump out of the tank, he fell back in the water. I now keep thick phonebooks on top of the glass canopies to prevent it from happening again.

With that said, I was wondering how everyone else keeps their lid secured? I'm hoping theres a more aesthetic way than to just putting rocks, bricks and books up there.

So please share and post pics of your creatively secured lids!

would using a thick aquarium glass help lets say 1.5 2 cm thick? you could make three pieces to cover the whole tank.

lol @ Pounder. Velcro is an awesome idea, but the noise might drive me crazy. :wall:

Also I checked out your DIY threads, Midnight, and they're awesome. My tank is a normal glass one from the retail stores, and the plastic trimming around the edge is really close to the glass so I'm not very comfortable with drilling holes in it for the plastic mirror clips. I do, however, love your other lid hold down idea involving silicone and I think I'm going to do that instead.

Hope you don't mind Midnight, I posted links to your 2 DIY lid hold downs. I figured it might help others here.

Thanks again for the ideas!

well i just keep my water level high as far up as it can go

i just have nornal cover glasses on the top

aros do jump in my tank but as the water level is so high the aro hits the cover glass before it has any chance to use its power

i think aros get most of their power from jumping as the leave the water with the last flick of their tail so high water level cuts down the risk of the aro getting out IMO

i use a square frame wood, i then used an inddustrial staple gun and stapled chicken wire to it it was used fer mice then turtles and now this. i dont need any weight on it as my light unit weighs enough
